Trip to Canada's Wonderland

Thursday is our trip to Canada's Wonderland. Here are some things you will need to know.

-the bus leaves at 9 am. Please be on time or you will miss the bus.
-wear your Phys. Ed. uniform
-wear a hat
-wear sunscreen - teachers will not apply sunscreen - students must come to school with sunscreen already applied
-you must bring money for lunch as Canada's Wonderland will not permit lunches to be brought in
 This is what is stated on the Canada's Wonderland website:
"The safety of our guests and associates is our number one priority. We need your assistance in an effort to make the park entry process as efficient as possible. Here's how you can help:
Please leave all non-essential purses, backpacks, book bags, fanny packs and other bags and packages at home or locked in the trunk of your car.
You will be asked to open purses, backpacks or other bags for inspection upon entry.
Please note that food and drinks MAY NOT be brought into the park. Plastic bottled water is permitted."

Reading Homework

Grade one students are being sent home with two booklets. Please have your child read the booklets this week. There are no questions to answer as Arts Night is this Wednesday. The booklets are yours to keep.

Upcoming Events

Arts Night is Wednesday, June 2 at 7 pm. Your child will be performing a play on stage. Your child should wear smart casual clothing. Your child's art work will also be display. Please invite friends and family.

Graduation is Wednesday, June 9 at 7 pm. Your child will be receiving a certificate for successfully completing their grade. Some awards will also be given out. Most of the awards will be given out on Friday, June 11 during our last assembly of the year.

The last day of school is June 11. Please note that this is a half-day only. Pick-up time is 12 pm. After school care begins at 12 pm. Please let us know if you require after school care for that day.

Track and Field Day

Wear your gym uniform, hat and sunscreen. Bring a water bottle.

Track and Field Day

This Friday is Track and Field Day! We will be walking to the local park. All students will be participating in these activities. We have been busy practicing! Please make sure your child wears their gym uniform. Please apply sunscreen to your child since we will outside all afternoon. All students should bring a hat and water bottle. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please let me know.

Another case of head lice was reported to the school. Please check your child's head for 45 minutes before sending them to school. There is a form in your child's agenda that must be signed and brought back with your child to school each day. If you do not bring the form, your child will not be admitted to school.

If you find any lice, please do not send your child to school. Your child must be free of lice for several days before returning to school.

Trip to Canada's Wonderland

In the front pocket of your child's agenda you will find a form regarding Canada's Wonderland. Please read the options carefully, fill out the form and return it by this Thursday. If your child is attending the trip and will be purchasing a ticket from SJA and riding on the bus, simply write your child's name in the corresponding spot. CAT 4

This Wednesday, the grade one students will be writing the CAT (Canadian Achievement Test). This test assesses students' reading, language, spelling and math skills. The CAT also evaluates how well students perform in comparison to other students across Canada.

There is no specific preperation for this test. The test is comprised of elements that have been taught throughout the year. We will be taking the test together. Please make sure your child gets proper rest and eats a good breakfast. Please be on time and present for the day.

Grandparent's Day

Once again, we will be celebrating Grandparent's Day in May. All grandparents are invited to come. A tour, food and class presentations are just some of the things the grandparents will enjoy. Science Fair

New Reading Homework for Grade One

Pirates!

The SK/Grade One class will be performing a pirate skit for the Night in Tuscany. Please have your child come dressed that evening as a pirate. A simple stripped shirt and bandana will do. Eye patches are welcome!

Piano Auditions

Several students have expressed an interest in playing the piano at the Night in Tuscany. Ms. Rocca is holding auditions tomorrow at lunch. Please bring your music to school tomorrow.

Spirit Day

Come dressed in red, white and pink on Thursday. Earn house points! We will be celebrating Valentine's Day with house games, festive clothing and a class party. If you wish, you may bring a treat to share with the class.

A Night in Tuscany


You are invited to A Night In Tuscany! This fundraising event, put on by the SJA Parent Guild, takes place on Saturday, February 20. Tickets are $50 per person.

Funds from this evening will be put towards the implementation of the IB programme. Please visit http://www.ibo.org/ for more inforamation about IB.

Please note: Each class will be performing that evening. Student attendance is required.

If your child plays a musical instrument, sings, dances or has any other special talent, and would like to perform that evening, please let me know. We would like to show case all the talent at SJA.

Grade One Oral Presentations

Each year, all students in grades one through eight are aksed to make an oral presentation. Students in grades one to three memorize a poem. Today, your child was sent home with a poem. Please check the front pocket of the agenda. All students will be presenting their poems in class on February 18. At that time students will be chosen to compete school wide on February 24.

Due Dates:
January 19 - begin memorizing first stanza
January 26 - present the first stanza in class
February 2 - present the first and second stanzas in class
February 9 - present the first, second and third stanzas in class (students whose poems only have two stanzas, will present both stanzas again on this day)
February 18 - oral presentations will be judged by Mr. Sawatsky
February 24 - school wide oral presentations - those students chosen on February 18 will compete again in front of the entire school

SK Kids

SK kids are learning about geometry. Please bring in  3-D geometric shapes. You will receive 50 house points for every regular geometric shape. We will be using cubes, prisms, cones and cylinders to construct robots.
