A Night in Tuscany


You are invited to A Night In Tuscany! This fundraising event, put on by the SJA Parent Guild, takes place on Saturday, February 20. Tickets are $50 per person.

Funds from this evening will be put towards the implementation of the IB programme. Please visit http://www.ibo.org/ for more inforamation about IB.

Please note: Each class will be performing that evening. Student attendance is required.

If your child plays a musical instrument, sings, dances or has any other special talent, and would like to perform that evening, please let me know. We would like to show case all the talent at SJA.

This week, students in grad one will be starting a geometry unit. Please look in your recycling box for 3-D geometric shapes. Cubes, rectangular prisms (boxes), spheres, cones and cylinders (paper towel tubes) are needed. Please do not send in irregular 3-D items.

NO BOOK REVIEW THIS WEEK

Please note that there is no book review due this week, despite what was written in the agenda on Monday. Book reviews will resume after the oral presentations in February. Please continue reading on a daily basis and record your efforts in the reading log. The reading log and books are to be turned in on Friday as usual. Please use the time to memorize your poem.

If you have already written your book review for this week, you will receive extra house points for your efforts.

Grade One Oral Presentations

Each year, all students in grades one through eight are aksed to make an oral presentation. Students in grades one to three memorize a poem. Today, your child was sent home with a poem. Please check the front pocket of the agenda. All students will be presenting their poems in class on February 18. At that time students will be chosen to compete school wide on February 24.

Due Dates:
January 19 - begin memorizing first stanza
January 26 - present the first stanza in class
February 2 - present the first and second stanzas in class
February 9 - present the first, second and third stanzas in class (students whose poems only have two stanzas, will present both stanzas again on this day)
February 18 - oral presentations will be judged by Mr. Sawatsky
February 24 - school wide oral presentations - those students chosen on February 18 will compete again in front of the entire school

Please bring in a picture of a pet. It may be a photograph or hand-drawn picture of your pet. If you do not have a pet, you may cut a picture from a magazine or print a picture from the internet.

1. Make a name graph using six names of family members or friends.  The graph should have the following three columns: Less Than 5 Letters, 5 Letters, More Than 5 Letters.

2. Create a list of things that always, sometimes and never happen at home.

SK Kids
